We are pleased to announce that we have been selected by the state of Arkansas to support their deployment of sector strategies statewide – adding another state to a growing list of clients working to transform their workforce development system.
Sector strategies are regional, industry-focused approaches to building skilled workforces and are among the most effective ways to aligning public and private resources to address the talent needs of business – while providing family-sustaining career paths for job-seekers. Sectors-based workforce development strategies are promoted actively by federal policy and are a key element in the Nation’s Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), which was passed by Congress in 2014.
“Sectors for us is not just another program,” said Beth Brinly, Vice-President, Workforce Innovation at Maher. “Rather, it's a culture-shift in the way we view the business of workforce development. By aligning public resources across government programs in workforce, education and economic development with the talent needs of business, we’re building exciting partnerships with the private sector that can lead to better supply chain management of talent within regional economies. Businesses win and job seekers win, and we’re so excited to be a leader in this space!”
Through this project, the Maher team will help to build capacity within the workforce development system and their partners to more effectively plan around the needs of regional economies, engage with growth sectors and inform students and job seekers about the opportunities present in the economy. “Over the next 12 months or so, we will be launching a wide array of consulting services to help the folks in Arkansas at all levels – state and local – move forward to build world-class sector strategies,” said Carrie Yeats, Director of Maher’s State and Regional Workforce Solutions practice.
“The Arkansas award brings us to a total of eight (8) regional and local area sector engagements we’re working at present. It is important work, and we’re able to share emerging practices from all around the Nation with our clients – which is something I think they really value,” continued Yeats.
