Workforce leaders from around the U.S. and from all Federal Partners convened on the Washington, D.C. Hilton January 26th -28th for a two-and-a-half-day conference focused on efforts to implement the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), and the Maher & Maher team played a critical support role in the session’s success. Branded "One Team, One Vision, One Conversation," ETA joined with the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) to lead a rigorous discussion of the challenges and opportunities partner Agencies, state and locals face in bringing WIOA to life. As the technical assistance contractor to the ETA, Maher & Maher staff helped in formulating the agenda, identifying speakers and workshop facilitators and in supporting on-site logistics for the nearly 800 attendees.
“It wasn’t easy to make this happen seamlessly on the heels of a 2’ snowstorm over the weekend,” said Rebecca Livingston, Maher’s Director of Federal Workforce Solutions, “but the team braved the storm and made it happen, working with our partners at ETA and NASWA. It was very rewarding to see teams working through tough issues and enjoying the chance to collaborate and learn from experts and from peers.”
Maher staff facilitated multiple workshops during the event, and Maher & Maher’s President & CEO, Rick Maher, facilitated a plenary session on regionalism featuring Deputy Assistant Secretary Eric Seleznow and system leaders during the luncheon on Day 2 of the Convening. Some of the workshops we facilitated included:
Because of our experience working at all levels of federal, state and regional implementation of WIOA, we provided a unique voice and perspective as we facilitated these sessions, helping to break down silos and bring perspective to each of these stakeholders.
“A major event like this one allows us to use the full array of our talents, from planning to communications and messaging, logistics, facilitating and more,” said Maher. “Particularly when it requires working with multiple partners and supports a mission as critical as this one (WIOA), it makes us extremely proud of our team and what we are able to contribute through our partnership with ETA.”
For those who could not attend, ETA has posted resources from many of the Convening’s workshop sessions on the resources section of the Innovation and Opportunity Network (ION) website, including handouts and other materials.
