For the past decade, Maher & Maher has been a strategic partner to the Office of Apprenticeship at the US Department of Labor, and is leading several initiatives to expand apprenticeship in all industries, states and demographic populations.
The first week of May brought Apprenticeship to the forefront with two nationally attended conferences, the first of which was managed by the Maher Apprenticeship Team as a part of its State Apprenticeship Expansion (SAE) Grant contract with the Office of Apprenticeship.
Over 100 apprenticeship, workforce, and education professionals from states and territories receiving SAE Grants as well as representatives from the Office of Apprenticeship attended the SAE Grantee Conference in Arlington, Virginia to work with their state peers, Maher technical assistance coaches and subject matter experts, and U.S. Department of Labor staff on grant-specific challenges and opportunities.
Conference attendees expressed their appreciation for being provided an opportunity to network with one another. The successful ideas and useful information shared was cited by many attendees as invaluable to their progress in expanding Registered Apprenticeship in their states.
Speakers included Office of Apprenticeship Administrator John Ladd and Acting Assistant Secretary of the Employment and Training Administration Byron Zuidema, as well as representatives from several of the SAE Grantee states who shared their challenges and successes in a variety of areas with their peers.
“The national momentum of expanding Apprenticeship continues to grow and we are thrilled to be at the center of it,” said Rebecca Livingston, Director of Federal Workforce Solutions for Maher & Maher. “Through our current work providing technical assistance to SAE grantees, Maher is directly supporting the work of 37 states focused on expanding Registered Apprenticeship into new Industries, new occupations and attracting new and diverse populations of apprentices.”
The SAE Grantee conference was planned to coincide with the National Skills Coalition’s Apprenticeship Forward Conference held that same week, so the Grantees would be provided an additional opportunity to network and gain more insight on other apprenticeship programs taking place around the country. Maher & Maher also attended this event to join the dialogue about advancing apprenticeship as a talent development solution and the intersection of apprenticeship with workforce development, education, and health and human services.
The Maher apprenticeship team has been growing steadily in numbers and breadth of expertise, as our work in the area of apprenticeship and other work-based learning initiatives has expanded nationwide.
