Practice Director – Federal Programs

Maher & Maher is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as our Practice Director – Federal Programs.  This position will provide leadership and will support the growth and success of Maher & Maher’s (Maher) federal practice within the Policy Development and Technical Assistance Division.  The Practice Director will focus on expanding Maher’s portfolio of federal contracts that provide training and technical assistances within the workforce, education, human services and economic development arenas. Federal Agencies of interest include Department of Health & Human Services, Department of Education, Department of Labor and other agencies with a workforce, education, human services or economic development focus. The incumbent will oversee consulting and management activities and will support Maher-wide initiatives, including identification and capture of new business opportunities, delivery and management of projects, and enhancement of organizational culture and development of staff talent and corporate capabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Function as an account lead for the Practice Area, identifying and pursuing new business opportunities in order to diversify the work portfolio.
  • Develop new relationships and create new business opportunities.
  • Maintain and strengthen existing business relationships.
  • Provide technical review of proposals and company deliverables.
  • Lead projects, as well as participate in the respective Senior Leadership Team.
  • Conduct program evaluations.
  • Supervise and mentor staff.
  • Write technical reports and proposals.
  • Make presentations to government clients.

Qualifications (Education, Knowledge and Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required, advanced degree highly desirable.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience managing in a project-based, professional services and consulting firm or similar deadline driven client focused environment.
  • Verifiable record of developing business opportunities in at least one of Maher’s core service areas at the Federal level.
  • Experience leading and managing training and technical assistance or consulting projects and mentoring highly-skilled teams.
  • Experience identifying and developing partner relationships in pursuit and delivery of new business opportunities.
  • Experience in leading proposals, providing services and preparing reports for government clients.
  • Prior leadership and supervision of a diverse, professional staff of at least 15.
  • Prior experience with government contracts highly preferred.

Skills:

  • Outstanding leadership and communications skills appropriate for a fast-moving, project-based professional services organization.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative skills.
  • Ability to think strategically about workforce and change management issues and programs.
  • Ability to lead projects and manage large portfolios of work.
  • Excellent ability to communicate complex technical material, both orally and in writing
  • Strong writing and editing skills.

Location:

  • Preference is to be located in the Washington DC Metro Area

Supervisory Responsibility:

This role is responsible for supervising the work of others and hiring of the employees within the department.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to handle, feel or operate standard office equipment.

Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.  Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
