Maher & Maher and IMPAQ to Help USDOL Expand Apprenticeship Nationwide
August 9, 2018 | Columbia, MD - Leading talent development firm Maher & Maher is excited to partner with the public policy experts at IMPAQ International to launch the Apprenticeship Powered by Industry (API) initiative, funded by the U.S. Department of Labor.
The United States has a long history of apprenticeships, and in the past few years, their resurgence has helped American companies acquire skilled talent and helped job seekers secure meaningful careers.
The goals of the API initiative are to gain a better understanding of the level of apprenticeships in the private sector across the United States and accelerate the adoption of apprenticeships in key industry sectors.
"Apprenticeships have the potential to both increase the nation’s talent pool and increase access to high-paying careers," said Stephanie Veck, Maher’s Project Director of the API initiative. “We are thrilled to work with business leaders and industry associations to leverage solutions already in place, to scale apprenticeship programs across the nation.”
During this 2-year contract, the Maher / IMPAQ team will attract and support businesses in standing up apprenticeship programs. Plans include partnering with business champions and industry leaders to scale apprenticeship in key sectors, including Advanced Manufacturing, Hospitality, and Information Technology, to start. Health Care, Financial Services, and numerous other sectors have also been identified as possible priorities.
In the coming months, the API team at Maher and IMPAQ will engage industry partners to lead business engagement efforts, conduct a landscape analysis of existing earn and learn efforts, and establish methods to scale apprenticeships throughout the country.
